Description
Agios Vlasios Church, located near Kythira's airport in the Frilingianika area, is a significant Byzantine monument dating back to the 13th century. This single-nave, barrel-vaulted church is part of a complex that includes an adjacent chapel dedicated to the Panagia (Virgin Mary). Both structures feature slate-covered roofs and semi-cylindrical arches, exemplifying the architectural style of their era.
The interior of Agios Vlasios is adorned with frescoes from the 13th century. The church's location is of particular geological interest; the surrounding path is rich in marine fossils, such as shells, indicating that the area was once submerged under the sea.
