Chamomile was named after its scent (land apple) and the first one to mention its beneficial properties is the father of medicine, Hippocrates who considered it emmenagogue and a medicine against hysteria. It is an aromatic and pharmaceutical plant. Christian tradition has dedicated chamomile to Saint George obviously because it blossoms about his/her name day (23 April).
