One of the most important Byzantine churches in Kythira as well as in the whole of Greece. It is in the center of the village of Livadi. There are five different phases of construction. According to experts, the church was built sometime between the 9th and 10th centuries. In its present form, it is a cruciform church with a dome, with three semi-cylindrical arches and a narthex that was built later (13th century). The corner rooms have arches (the western ones are very long). The winged altarpiece was built later. The church has gone through five building phases. There are three layers of frescos. The first layer dates back to the 10th – 11th century. The second layer dates to the 13th century and the third dates to post-Byzantine frescos of the 16th century. Part of the frescos is on display in the Exhibition of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine art in the church of Analipsi in Livadi.
